How to Be a Mom AND a Business Owner Boss Babe.

Summertime and the livin’s…..NOT….easy.

I’m not complaining but wow, I’ve been performing a juggling act with at least 10 balls. And I’m just barely keeping them up in the air.

Being a mom-trepreneur is a choice, and after experiencing a few too many summers of fleeting moments and drive-by kisses on my girl’s cheeks, it was time to put HER first.

As Oprah says, you CAN have it all, just not all at the same time.

The past year has been packed with amazing opportunities in my business. But alongside opportunity comes responsibility.

Opportunity meant traveling and being away from my fam more than I may have chosen.

Being present and showing up fully each and every day in my business meant not a lot of free time left to chill on the couch and braid my girl’s hair.

Some days, I didn’t get to hang out with my daughter until after 6 pm, and believe me when I tell you I could feel these precious years passing right before my eyes.

So instead of wallowing, I committed to doing whatever it took to spend more time with Little Miss Madeline this summer.

Instead of scheduling her around my biz, I scheduled my business activities around HER.

We re-established mommy daughter love, rekindled our relationship and now, instead of always asking for Daddy constantly, she’s coming to to me for things. WHEW.

That was a close one.

We’re buddies again and I couldn’t be happier

But there ARE moments.

There’s an argument about everything.

My super opinionated almost 9-year-old is impossible to get out the door…

“I haven’t played yet this morning.”

“I’m NOT going to camp.”

Every 5-minutes it’s “mommy look” — and if you’re a mom, you get how frustrating those constant interruptions can be.

Today is a perfect example. I started working on the computer at 7 am. Started getting ready for the day at 8. Rushed Madeline off to camp by 9. Got a quick workout in because #selfcare. Had an hour long meeting then rushed to pick her up by noon.

7 calls, 22 emails, and 56 “mommy look” moments later, the day was done.

It’s crazy. It’s real life. It’s happening to all of us.

We want it all. Success in our businesses, our marriage, our friendships and our relationships with our kids. So it’s time we start redefining how to accomplish it all.

As momtrepreneurs, we have to become experts at balancing our health, time, work and love. We need to become experts at efficiency.

Set priorities, make lists...and find those little hacks that make your life easier.

Take a deep breath. The stress we can feel from this balancing act is real but only if we give it energy.

And being efficient doesn’t just mean doing everything faster...it means slowing down and keeping your stress levels down...so you’re not adding oatmeal to the coffee maker instead of, ya know, coffee beans.

Let’s do things right the first time. After we’ve taken five deep breaths and after we’ve reminded ourselves how lucky we are to have children and a business we love.

Get a good sleep. Take your husband out on a date. Set healthy boundaries so you can be healthy and take home that Mom of the Year award.

There’s never time and there’s always work to be done.

So let’s make the best of it.

Being a momtrepreneur means constantly re-prioritizing and recalibrating your life. Instead of just listening to the soundtrack, you’re dancing with life and doing your damndest not to miss a beat.

If you can find your groove as a mom-trepreneur, you can do anything. And you will.

Remember, we can choose to believe whatever we want.

And this summer I chose to believe I can have an awesome relationship with my daughter, have my gluten-free cake, eat it and get a workout in too.

Do you know a mom-trepreneur who is crazy inspiring? Let me know in the comments!
