How I got into Essential Oils?

A number of years ago my life was not great, although it should have been. I was a Lawyer in Los Angeles and making good money. This is what I had studied so hard to achieve and what my parents wanted for me. But deep down, I knew that was not my true purpose and passion in life and this dis-ease eventually manifested into my body being completely out of alignment. I got really sick and for the longest time no one knew what was going on with me. I was so scared as I had a young daughter and this was not how I had envisioned my life turning out. After a few months, I started seeing a naturopath who introduced several holistic solutions into my live in an effort to help support my immune system and the vital organs in my body. One of these holistic practices was the use of essential oils. I had never used them before, although had heard of them in the past. I always thought they were pretty much just for fragrance and having a good smell around the house. I never expected much from them to be honest…I was all about nutrition! I thought if I exercised and ate right, everything would work out right. I think back now and picture myself leaving her office with a few of bottles of oils in my hand. Little did I know the impact those bottles would have on my life. I just felt so terrible at the time, they were just another thing to “take”. I started using the oils as often as I could and she kept adding more to my protocol. I started off using them internally and diffusing them. I made them part of my juicing regime and I can honestly say that they changed my life in so many ways and did so pretty quickly. I was able to get a much more relaxing and productive nights sleep. I noticed a boost in my energy. I even felt a shift in my emotions as I noticed a more positive mood and outlook on my life. I was on the right track and I know now the essential oils were a big part of that.. I was hooked on Oils and I became Oil CRAZY! I consumed and used them whenever I could. Before long we had like SIX diffusers in the house and my Husband thought I had gone nuts…LOL What I did get to learn during that time, was that all Essential Oils are NOT created equal. I had no allegiance or bias to any particular brand, as I was just a consumer. I tried so many different brands but always came back to doTERRA oils. They smelt better and seemed to work better too. I just believed the quality was so much better. The information they shared with the consumer, their website, everything was just far superior. After falling in love with oils and becoming a believer, I wanted to start incorporating them more into my life and into my business life, because I was at that time a Yoga and Pilates instructor. I thought they would be a great fit and compliment to my existing clientele. And of course because of the profound effect I wanted to tell everyone about them. So I joined up to be a part of their team. I was no longer just a consumer. I was a believer and I was now going to market their products too. I was totally converted and obsessed with these gifts of the earth. But even then, although I was so happy with how they made me feel, I never expected them to completely shift and shape my life over the coming years like they did. To cut to the chase, my business absolutely exploded with oils and it became my sole business within 6 months and I was earning 6 figures. My life had shifted in so many ways and it was a beautiful thing…I’m gonna tell you all about how and why that happened in a little bit…

Why Essential Oils?

So why Essential Oils? What is so special about them? You know when you take an Orange peel and you squeeze it, you get a very strong aroma and you feel a liquid on the surface of the skin? Well that is an Essential Oil. The Essential oil of a plant is where all the power and benefits are located. An essential oil allows us to capture a very large amount of that goodness in a single drop. Nature is full of hugely beneficial and powerful plants, herbs and spices that can aide and support our well being. The more we tap into those and rid ourselves of the toxins and junk that are so prevalent in our society today, the better it is for us. There are so many uses for them, they are easy to use and can be incorporated in so many different ways…think…juicing and cooking, as supplements, skin care, hair products, household cleaning and inhaled by using diffusers. And by the way, they smell AMAZING! Essential Oils allow us to tap into huge amounts of goodness inside of one little drop and brings the benefits of nature to us.

Why I chose doTERRA?

When I started I had no allegiance to any particular brand and I tried many different oils to be honest. But it seemed I kept going back to doTERRA (destiny perhaps?). I just felt that the quality was so much better than the others. The people involved just seemed so awesome…so much so that I actually wanted to be a part of the team right from the start. The Quality: In my opinion doTERRA is correct when they state that their oils are the finest grade out there. I can absolutely say that…because I was just the scared and out of balance girl who was a consumer of their product before I became involved with them and made it my business. There are a number of reasons why their product is of such a high quality… Sourcing: The first step in the process starts with the plants themselves. dōTERRA uses a global network of growers that provide the plants used for it’s essential oil production. Where the plant is grown is super important for the quality of the oil. doTERRA is tapping into the knowledge and wisdom of local growers who have grown the source plants for generations. All those little bits of wisdom, all the TLC and the fact that it is their livelihood makes sure that the environment in which they are grown is just right and that the plants are correctly taken care of. doTERRA recognizes the importance of these local growers and invests in helping those communities succeed. They really see themselves as being in partnership with these local communities and I have even visited some of these facilities both here in the US and abroad and it was so amazing meeting the locals, the families and seeing the beneficial impact of this partnership. The pride, joy and passion for their livelihood is astounding. It really is so cool, when you meet these people, their families and their communities. It is super inspiring and you can’t help but just want to be a part of it. Distillation: Ok guys get ready…it’s time to get a little technical for a minute…I promise I will keep it simple. The whole process of creating essential oils is pretty complicated and although there is science behind it, it also requires a lot of “art” based on years of experience and having the right technologies. The most common method of extracting essential oils is a low-heat steam distillation process. In this process, pressurized steam is circulated through plants. This is when the essential oils are released from the plant and carried away by the steam. When the steam cools, the water and oils naturally separate and the oil is collected…pretty cool right? I told you it wouldn’t be too complicated. As simple as it sounds there is a lot of variables in that process that need to be monitored and managed so that every thing works out just right! That is just one method they use…Compression, in which plant parts are pressed to squeeze out the essential oil, is another means of distillation and is the process used for many citrus oils (think creating or squeezing an orange peel). The fragrance is amazing as I am sure you can imagine. Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® Quality Protocol: doTERRA’s CPTG protocol is amazing! Every batch of their essential oils is subjected to their own super strict requirements in their CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® quality protocol. This protocol makes sure that all their oils keep the same high standards of potency, purity, and consistency in every bottle of oil, so you always get the best quality oils. The CPTG testing consists of multiple tests at different stages of the production process so they can catch any impurities or imperfections along the way. I know so many companies that don’t do this which is crazy given we use these oils on our body and we use them with a lot of expectations. This testing procedure means they are a grade above Organic! If you’re like me, you’ll appreciate this part of the process. I want to know when I am purchasing product I am getting the same quality each time. It always drives me insane when I go to get a coffee at Starbucks and I tend to get a different strength and taste each time…Am I the only one this happens too?…LOL Anyway, doTERRA’s testing is the most stringent and powerful testing protocol in the market, which obviously gives me a lot of peace of mind. Why I Made it My Biz?

The beginning…To be honest when I started using the oils as a consumer I never thought that Essential Oils would become my business even though I did know that I had fallen in love with essential oils and I was falling in love with the company doTERRA. A friend of mine who initially sold me the oils to support my health suggested I open an account as a wholesaler, seem as though I was using so many oils as that could save me money. She also suggested to me that I could share the oils with my existing Yoga, Pilates and Health coaching clients and I could supplement my income. This was all new to me, but it made sense financially as a Mom and business owner, so I did it. What I never knew though, was when I was invited to go attend a conference with her to see the “main” folks talk about the company and the product, was how my life was about to change. I reluctantly agreed and dragged myself to the convention…it was there that my life was changed! The company owners were on stage talking, the leaders of the company and others who were pretty inspiring. Initially I was just sitting there thinking I was pretty insignificant, however that belief started changing as I listened to more and more of the speakers. What I began to realize was that these people were just regular people like you and me who had decided to make a real difference in their lives. I could literally feel the energy shift inside my body as I began to think…”Hey I could do this…” They really resonated with me. I was literally blown away by their beliefs and approach to business and to all the people that were involved in the company, even the person who was just starting out. It was so refreshing and inspirational. I decided right there and then, that I wanted to be a part of this company and work with these type of people. I looked at the leaders on stage and said to myself…”I want to be on that stage one day”. Well…after just14 months my dream came true as I broke every company record and climbed to the top of the earnings and ranking achievements. That was initially driven by the love of the product, the company and people involved. The realization…After that initial euphoria I settled into my routine and I must admit I worked my butt off for the first 6 months. I gave it everything I had…mostly to prove it to myself that I could do this. Another big shift that happened, is that I was working with and attracting more and more women into my business just like me. These were women (and a few guys too) that were based all around the world, from all different backgrounds but we shared a common bond. We all wanted to live a life of purpose, passion and doing what we love, while helping to provide for our families financially. I realized that this business was such a gift as I absolutely love to see other women having success in their life. And here I was working with these women every day and witnessing it happen. It was and still is such a powerful feeling within, that I absolutely love. These folks have become my friends and I honestly love them. I can literally now say I have friends in almost every state I visit in the US and most cities I travel around the world. Over the last year I have travelled to Ireland, England, Scotland, France, Italy, The Netherlands, Australia and others and have hooked up with my “girls” and their partners in each country…it is amazing. I get invited to stay at people’s homes every time I travel within the US, not because I am special, but because I now have a greater network of friends with a common purpose in our lives… Dreams…The amazing thing about this business is that it has allowed me to achieve many of my dreams. I don’t mean to brag but there came a point, when I just looked at my life and I suddenly realized that I was living the life I had dreamed of. It was a weird feeling to be honest, but a beautiful kind of weird. I am now so much closer to achieving some of other long term dreams like one day opening a Raw food restaurant right here in Boulder with a focus on Raw food, vegan options and a juice bar. I have always wanted to do that and I will achieve that dream in the coming years. One of the things that keeps me awake at night…in a good way…is another dream of building an orphanage in Haiti. I visited that country with doTERRA and was just blown away by the awesomeness of the people and also by the amount of poverty and lack that so many of those people live in every day. I know I will be able to achieve this dream too and it will be because of my passion and the business I have aligned myself with. There is another way…I want you to know that. The Networking business still has a negative view with many people. They still think of the door to door salesman of the old days and Mom’s old Tupperware party. It is not about that at all. It is not about hitting up on your friends either. It is about building a network of like minded individuals and people with similar goals and passions, where you create this amazing family. It gives you financial freedom, time freedom, life freedom. The ability to contribute to family holidays, college savings and building dreams. It allows you to work when you want, how you want and from where you want. I love that…
