Finding Inspiration & Knowledge from an Unexpected Source

Two weeks ago I was sitting in a convention hall in Salt Lake City in the front row waiting for my turn to speak to 20,000+ people about being a successful MOM-trepreneur. I was nervous but super excited. I had been waiting a while to get up on stage and give it my best shot. I have done this a number of times, but it always gives me a huge thrill and I love it. Just before I was about to get up, my phone vibrated and I checked to see who was texting me. It was from a friend of mine – in fact she helped me around the house. I am in a fortunate enough position to be able to employ someone to help me with my cooking, grocery shopping, laundry, etc.PP Finding Inspiration Even though I don’t mind doing that work in fact I actually quite enjoy it, my current work schedule means that if I do those regular chores, it means less time with my family in the evenings and weekends. I am willing to make the financial sacrifice to be able to spend that time with the most important people in my life. In any case, I opened the text expecting it to be a question about something at home. I was in for a pure shock as her text shared with me that she had been diagnosed with late stage Cancer and it was spread pretty much across most of her body.

I was completely numb! I didn’t know what to think, I didn’t have any emotion, I couldn’t speak, I just froze. It was so devastating that it shook me to my core. How must she be feeling if I was feeling this way.

In any case me getting up to speak became completely irrelevant, because this beautiful woman had walked into my life about six months ago when I was looking for some help around the house. I was just looking for someone who could cook well and clean my house like I used to do – and I was pretty crazy about my house. I didn’t expect anything of it, in fact I was more nervous of letting a stranger in the house. Over time we spent more time together, talked a lot more, laughed together, shared stories together, shared our insecurities and mentored each other. We became really good friends who cared for each other. Even though she was only about fifteen years old than me, she became like a mother figure to me. I love my Mother and she is special and irreplaceable of course, but my “helper” was a different kind of relationship. We had similar beliefs and we looked out for each other. She is a complete health junkie and taught me so many things about different foods, plants and natural remedies. But she taught me more than that. You see she revealed to me her own insecurities and how she never thought of herself as beautiful. That was until her diagnosis. She realized that her own insecurities had been holding her back her entire life. Those insecurities had been eating away at her for so long. She felt trapped by the beliefs of her family and how they imposed their limited beliefs on her.

This is what she has taught me in the weeks since sharing her situation with me.

1.  Accept Death – We have nothing to fear in life, especially our own thoughts. We need to embrace death and not fear it. Stare into the face of death and know it’s the natural course of everything in this life to move into a different cycle. 2.  More Freedom – release yourself from the limited beliefs and demands of others. Never allow others to determine the way you should live life.

Don’t wait for that perfect moment or right timing to act out your dreams.  Do it now. @hayleyhobson (Click to Tweet!)

3. Self-Acceptance – Accept yourself just the way you are. Accept all the little wrinkles, bumps, imperfections and blemishes. Stop beating yourself up and trying to fit in and be more like society demands you to be. Be yourself and accept yourself the way you are. All you can do is try each day to become a little better version of yourself, but that starts within. 4. Embrace Life & Yourself – Enjoy everyday as best as you can. Embrace this moment, whether good or bad and allow yourself to shine. Life is a journey, one of personal growth and we don’t know what awaits us each day, so embrace the moment as if it is your last. I never knew that person who walked into my front door that day would have such a profound impact on my life in such a short space of time. I was just looking for someone to come into my house, help to cook and help clean our dirty clothes. Instead we were blessed with a beautiful angel.
