Kid Friendly Smoothies

I have at least one smoothie every day. I'll admit it, I'm not a chef and a smoothie is a no-brainer way to make sure I get in good, clean, healthy, raw veggies. My daughter Madeline has grown up watching me make smoothies every day. And she drinks them too. For her, it's a lot of fun to fill up a blender with fruit and watch it become a shake. I've started sneaking in more vegetables into her smoothies. Baby spinach in a smoothie turns it a bright green AND it doesn't taste like spinach. I've tried kale, and while I love it in my smoothie, the taste is a bit too strong for Madeline and it can be tough to completely blend it. Madeline refuses to chew her smoothie so everything has to blend smooth! I think all moms fight food battles with their kids. I'm no different. Even as a vegan health coach, my kid still will have an occasional fit when I tell her to eat her veggies. I try to give her healthier options of snacks she see's on TV. But it can be so tough sometimes. If I can get her to have at least one smoothie, I know she's got some good food in her! My basic smoothie recipe for Madeline is really simple. A half a banana (frozen for a thicker shake!), about a cup of baby spinach, about a cup of almond milk and we're done. Madeline will ask for berries, mango, an apple instead of a banana. Sometimes we'll add almond butter, especially if I want her to have a bit more protein. I avoid protein powders for Madeline. I use them, but there hasn't been a lot of study about them with kids yet. We haven't tried chia seeds, but that will be our next adventure!   Kid Friendly Smoothie - HayleyHobson - Health and Business Coach
