Instructions For Keeping Your Colon Moving

For most of my life, I was constipated. constipation Yes, you heard me correctly.  And just like you’re probably thinking, it totally sucked.   I struggled with “irritable bowel syndrome” my entire life and was constantly constipated.   I spent years trying to figure out how to heal my finicky gut.  I went to every doctor under the sun.  General doctors, Gastroenterologists, holistic doctors, acupuncturists.  I tried different foods, different herbs.  My body was a continual experiment.   Finally I started pooping regularly. To me it was a friggin’ blessing to wake up in the morning and have to go to the bathroom!  I’d get up and just stare into the toilet, so proud of my accomplishment.   So yes, today, I’m here to talk to you about poop.    Although there is nothing glamorous about your colon, there is something wildly gratifying about eliminating waste in the toilet, right?   Everyone loves a good bowel movement.   It feels good.  Even if you don’t think about the complexity of all the toxins you’re eliminating.  You just know that when you poop you feel better.  Plain and simple.   And the more you go, the better you feel.  The bloat disappears.  The gas goes away. Hells bells, you may even feel slimmer.   I would say those are good enough reasons to want to keep your colon clean.   And I’m sure you know that keeping your colon clean is an absolute necessary for your health.  I mean if you’re colon gets inflamed with toxicity, you’re inviting cancer into your body.   So if you too are looking for better colon and digestive health, here are a few tips for you:   1). Drink A TON of WATER Keep a water bottle on your desk, in your car, in your bathroom and wherever else you go. If someone offers you a drink, say, “Yes! I’d love a glass of water.” You most likely will not be able to drink enough water. If you’re sick of drinking water, try flavoring it. Some of my favorite “water recipes” are:
  • Cucumbers with a drop of spearmint essential oil
  • One to two drops of lemon, lime or wild orange essential oil or simply soaking the fruit in your water instead.  (I prefer the essential oils because they have so many additional therapeutic health benefits including liver detoxing).
  • Brew some de-caffeinated herbal tea
2). Eat Colon Cleansing Foods You've heard it once, you’ve heard it twice. You need fiber in your diet to keep things moving along. There are several foods that naturally assist your body’s elimination process including:
  • Apples
  • Avocados
  • Apple Cider Vinegar
  • Flax Seeds and Chia Seeds
  • Dark Leafy Greens
  • Probiotic Fermented Foods. (think sauerkraut or Kombucha)
3). Get Your Body Moving At 17 years old, my doctor instructed me to start an exercise program.  And from that day I’ve been moving.  The more I move, the more movement my colon gets.   I haven’t told you yet but my colon is on the wrong side of my body with many abnormal twists in it.  It’s called a malrotation of the colon.  Peristalsis is inhibited.  In layman’s terms it mean my pooping ability has slowed down.   But cardiovascular activity has been my friend. If I can exercise every day, I get less plugged up.   4). Shut It Down Find some down time.  We all need to shut down.   Hey, this is coming from a person who has a really hard time doing nothing.  Relaxing for me is working on my laptop in bed as opposed to my office.   But I find time to practice yoga and meditate a few days a week because that helps me unplug.   With all the undue stress on our organs, our digestive systems begins to panic.  It’s the real “brain” in our body and if over-stressed, it will shut off in order to survive.   5).  Massage Your Tummy A gentle circular motion on your colon will help move things along. I add a few drops of Peppermint, Ginger, Carroway, Anise and Lemon essential oils to my belly as additional support. It works like a miracle. I have just given you 5 simple but smart ways to keep your colon clean. There is nothing worse than feeling constipated. How important is colon health to you? I would love to hear from you.
